“Rock Club” is Here to Stay!

Axis recently donated to the Emerson Elementary School in Lakewood, Ohio, by helping purchase instruments for the school to play in “Rock Club,” which puts on a concert every hear for the entire school community.

Emerson Elementary is near a large metropolitan area, and more than half of the students live in poverty and receive free or reduced meals. Emerson Elementary has the highest number of refugee students, and over 40 languages are spoken in the school district. What they have in common is a love for music.

From Mr. Shields:

My Project

Many students pretend they are rock stars tearing up the stage. We are making those dreams a reality. Our school’s ‘Rock Club’ takes upper elementary students and turns them into pop stars. We take budding artists and train them to play five songs which we perform at our annual school concert. We are in dire need of equipment.

Most of our students can not afford musical instruments of their own.

Our club provides these instruments for students to take home and practice for our big gig. We meet weekly to practice together.

We are now victims of our own success. The more our students want to join, the more equipment we need. This project will help us raise enough funds to outfit an entire band. Many people have donated instruments to our cause, but we need additional items. Help us turn up this club from “a ten to an eleven.”

What was clear from Mr. Shields’ description of the the students’ needs was that they were all huge music lovers who desperately needed instruments to continue growing their music skills and also have an outlet for their creativity.

With the new music instruments purchased, Rock Club is here to stay at Emerson Elementary!
